Calculus On Demand (COD) Web Site
COD (see left sidebar) gives a snap-shot of each Lecture. It is definitely the place to begin your studying because you can get an overview of what is covered in class.

The COD web site is where you can find all the materials from the textbook that are relevant to a given lecture, including both on-line and textual materials. It also has a link to the WeBWorK login for the Math 3 homework.

Homework
Homework must be submitted by 8:00 a.m. on the day it is due. The homework problem sets will be done over the web using the WeBWorK system which presents a slightly different set of problems to each student. This problem-generator allows you to get a hard copy of an assignment, input the answers, submit the problems for grading, and go over the correct answers. It even lets you review your record so that you can see how well you are doing. Moreover, you will be able to practice solving similar problems.

All Math 3 homework assignments will be posted on WeBWorK weekly, normally at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, with for example problem set "day05" on WeBWorK corresponding to "Lec 5" on the Daily Schedule.

Answers to a given homework set will be available in WeBWorK at 1:00 p.m. on the day it is due. In addition to the answers provided by WeBWorK, we will post the written-out solutions to a version of the problems so that you can see the process involved in solving a particular problem.

Exam Study Questions
Study questions will be posted here before each of the exams this term. The questions will be taken from past years' exams and current material. The questions should provide some indication of the nature and depth of typical exam questions, but they should not be regarded as an exhaustive study guide.

  • Hour Exam 1 Practice Problems: Taken from previous Math 3 hour-exams.
    There will be a review session Monday 10/17, 7:00-9:00 pm, 101 Bradley.

    Our hour exam in the fall of 2005 is on Wednesday, October 19, 3:30-4:45, first floor of Bradley. It will have ten multiple choice problems worth a total of 60 points and three long-answer questions worth 40 points. Take #2 pencils to the exam.

    Be sure to review all past homework carefully. You can even login to WeBWorK as a practice user to get a new version of a problem. Reviewing all of these problems is the best way to get ready for the exam because the practice problems above do not necessarily cover all the concepts for which you are responsible. We do not have time in an hour to test everything we have studied. However, the test from a previous year will give you a good sense of how well you know the material.

    The actual hour exam this year, on Wednesday, November 9, 2005, 3:30-4:45 , first floor of Bradley, will have ten multiple choice problems worth a total of 60 points and three long-answer questions worth 40 points. The exam will concentrate on material from day12 through day20. Take #2 pencils to the exam.

Reviewing homework problems and class notes is the best way to get ready for the exam because the practice problems above do not necessarily cover all the concepts for which you are responsible.

We will use these topics and the final from fall 2000 as the basis of our in-class review on Monday and Wednesday, November 28 and 30: Problems for Review Classes (open all files with Adobe Acrobat Reader).

  • Final Exam Practice Problems: Final Exam, Math 3, Fall 2001 (open with Adobe Acrobat Reader)
    Note: The Final this year is on Saturday, December 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Spaulding (Hopkins Center). The final will contain 30 multiple-choice questions, each worth 5 points, for a total of 150 points. It covers everything from the first day of the course to the last, but places disproportionate weight on topics since the second hour-exam. If you can do the WeBWorK homework (including CSC homework) and understand the concepts behind the problems, you should be in good shape for the exam.
