Exams

The midterm exams will consist of an in-class portion given during the x-hour on the dates given below, and a take-home portion distributed at the in-class exam and due the following day at the start of class. For the take-home portion, you may use your textbook and class notes, but do not consult any other books or sources. The final will not have a take-home portion. The date and time of the final are scheduled by the registrar and can not be changed. Do not make travel arrangements that will prevent you from attending the final!

Homework Policy

Homework will be assigned daily and will be collected on Mondays at the start of class. In addition, there will be a weekly proof assignment, typically due on Fridays, which will be graded on a credit/no credit basis, and for which you will be given unlimited rewrites. All homework should be clearly and carefully written up. Please staple pages together, and do not submit pages ripped from a spiral notebook unless you can remove the jagged edges. Late homework will not be accepted unless you have a compelling, documented excuse. Unexcused late and missing papers count zero.

The course grade will be based upon the scores on the midterm exam, homework, and the final exam as follows:

The Honor Principle

On Exams: No help given or received. For the takehome portion of the exams, you are on your honor not to speak to anyone else about the exam until everyone has turned the exam in. The one exception is that I will be available to answer any questions of clarification you may have.

On Homework: You are encouraged to work together to solve problems, but you should write up your solutions on your own. It is a violation of the honor code for someone to provide the answers for you.

Disabilities

Students with disabilities who will be taking this course and may need disability-related classroom accommodations are encouraged to make an appointment to see their instructor as soon as possible. Also, they should stop by the Academic Skills Center in Collis Center to register for support services.
