  Mathematics 71            Fall  2004

 
Text:  Algebra  by  Michael Artin

Classes:  MWF  8:45-9:50 in 105 Bradley.  The x-hours, Th 9:00-9:50,  
won't be used, unless announced otherwise.

Instructor:  Jeff Kiralis,  312 Bradley Hall,  6-2411.

Office hours:  Monday 10:00-12:00, Thursday 9:30-10:30 in 312 Bradley. 

Tutorials:  Each Tuesday evening 6:00-8:00 in Bradley 103.  Changed to:
    each Monday evening 6:00-8:00 in Bradley 105 starting Nov. 8th.


Homework:  Usually assigned after each class meeting and
due in class Wednesday of the following week.
You may be given more time for some assignments.
Late homework will not be accepted.  
    Your Homework should be written in complete English sentences.
You may lose some credit for very poorly written solutions,
especially if only you can extricate a solution from what you hand in.

   Exams: Take-home midterm and
  a final exam to be scheduled by the registrar.
  No early final exams will be given.

Grading:  Final letter grades will be determined as follows:  Midterm 30%;
   Final exam  30%;  Homework  40%

Honor  Code:
       Homework:  You may work together on assignments.  However, write up all homework to be graded by yourself,
     and give credit to classmates (or others) who helped you significantly.
     Copying from another person's paper or notes is a violation of the honor code, even if you worked with that person.
     Exams:   Giving or receiving any help during an exam is a violation of the honor code.
 
Disabilities:
    Any student with a documented disability needing academic adjustments or accommodations should talk
to me by the end of the second week of the term.  All discussions will remain confidential, although the Student
Disabilities Coordinator may be consulted to verify the documentation of the disability.
