Announcements:

• The final exam will be on Sunday, August 28 from 3:00 to 6:00 in Room 007 Kemeny Hall. You are responsible for the entire terms work, but the emphasis will be on the material since the last exam. You may bring into the exam a 3 x 5 index card with anything of your choosing written on one side. The exam consists of nine problems - one is true/false (see below) and one short answers (but not definitions). Two of the problems call for proofs. Furthermore there will be a Q & A session on Friday at 4:00 in Room 006 Kemeny (our classroom).

• There will be one problem on the final exam which consists of 15 true/false questions. At the end of nearly all the sections in our textbook, there are two problems each of which consists of several true/false questions. For the final exam true/false problem, one true/false question was chosen from each of the following assigned sections: sections 1.8 - 6.2 except for sections 3.1, 3.2, 4.4 and 5.4.

• A copy of the M22 final exam that was given last summer can be found at m22x10 practice final exam. As before, there is no guarantee that our exam will be like it in length, difficulty or choice of material. In fact, there are some topics on it that we have not covered.

• Solutions to midterm exam 2 can be obtained at midterm exam 2 - solutions.

• Hints and the answers to Homework 6 can be found at Homework 6.

• There will be a Q & A session on Wednesday, August 10 in Room 006 Kemeny from 4:15 to 5:30 (or till whenever you run out of questions).

• Answers and comments for the second practice exam can be obtained at practice exam2-answers.

• The first midterm exam will take place in 006 Steele (not in Kemeny Hall). You will have two hours to work on it. You can come at 11 and stay till 1 or come at 12 and stay till 2. You may bring one 3 x 5 card with you with anything you wish written on one side. Calculators and computers are not allowed. You are responsible for the material on the syllabus up to and including section 2.2. An optional Q & A session will be held on Wednesday from 4:05 to 5:15 in 006 Kemeny.

• You can find a M22 midterm exam that was given last summer by Professor Williams at m22x10 practice exam1. . This should give you some idea of what is expected of students in this course. However, I do not guarantee that our exam will be exactly like it in length, difficulty or choice of material.

Homework & Examinations

• Problems from the text will be assigned weekly. With the exception of the first week, the assignment for a given week will consist of all the problems listed as Written Homework for that week. It will be due in class on Wednesday of the following week. For more details, see Syllabus and Homework Assignments.
• There will be two midterm exams, one on July 21 and the other on August 11.

The Honor Principle

• On Exams: No help given or received. No calculators are to be used.
  

• On Homework: Students are encouraged to work together with one or two classmates and/or to seek help from the instructor. Those students who do not know of anyone to work with but would like to collaborate should contact the instructor. Students should state on their homework paper the names of those with whom they have collaborated. What is important in doing homework is the eventual comprehension of the solution of the problem. When a student writes up a homework problem it is to be his or her own understanding of how to solve the problem. The solutions that a student submits must be written by him or her alone. Any copying of another person's solutions, in whole or in part, will be regarded as a violation of the Honor Code.
