Exams

There will be two midterm exams and a final.

Date Time Room
Exam 1 Tuesday, April 22 4:00 - 6:00 Kemeny 008

Homework

Written homework will be assigned for every class and will be posted to the homework page. Each homework will be given two scores. One is on a scale of 1-3 which will be scored according to the effort you put into the assignment (for example, did you work through all of the problems). The other score will be determined based on correctness. The effort scores will constitute 25% of your total homework grade.

Any late homework you turn in will only count toward your effort score (so you will receive a 0 on the correctness portion). The lowest 3 homework scores will be dropped.

Collaboration on homework is permitted and encouraged, but all homework is to be written up independently!

Grading

Grades will be computed in two different ways. You will receive the higher of the two scores.

Method 1 Method 2
Homework 100 100
Midterms 150 each 200 each
Final 300 200
Total 700 700

Tutorials

The two graduate TAs, Benjamin Linowitz and Ralf Rueckriemen, will run tutorial sessions in Kemeny 006, on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Tutorials will begin on Sunday, March 30.

Also note that the Tutor Clearinghouse will organize study groups for this course, and private one-on-one tutors are also sometimes available for Math 13. The tutors and study group leaders are recruited on the basis that they have done well in the subject, and are trained by the Academic Skills Center. If you would like to have a tutor or sign up with a study group, please go to Collis 301 and fill out an application as early in the term as possible.

Disabilities

Students with disabilities who will be taking this course and may need disability-related classroom accommodations are encouraged to make an appointment to see their instructor as soon as possible. Also, they should stop by the Academic Skills Center in Collis Center to register for support services.
