When reading 1.1 pay special attention to the following concepts:

  • 3-D cartesian coordinates, origin, axes, octants, coordinate planes, the observations about plotting and viewing 3-D pictures, the distance formula, linear equations and planes, spheres, cylinders, parabloids, orientation (right-hand vs left-hand).
When reading the handout pay special attention to the following concepts:
  • cylindrical coordinates, the "conversion" equations, the basic pictures, spherical coordinates (note the restrictions on rho and phi), the "conversion" equations, the basic pictures.
