Reading

Read what we will cover in class on Friday: 13.2, 1.1 (in OZ-3)

When reading 13.2 pay special attention to the following concepts:

  • slope of a parametric curve, slope of a polar curve, area in polar coordinates.
When reading 1.1 pay special attention to the following concepts:
  • 3-D cartesian coordinates, origin, axes, octants, coordinate planes, the observations about plotting and viewing 3-D pictures, the distance formula, linear equations and planes, spheres, cylinders, parabloids, orientation (right-hand vs left-hand).

Problems

The following problems are due by the beginning of class on Friday 2/26.
  • 13.1 : 32, 33, 35, 42, 44, 46, 48.
  • 13.2 : 2, 3.
  • Find the equation for the tangent line to the polar curve given by the functions in each of 13.1.32, 13.1.33, 13.1.35 when theta = 0.
