Read what we will cover in the next class: Chapters 0, 2
When reading Chapter 0 pay special attention to the following concepts:
- equivalence relation, equivalence classes, know examples and nonexamples;
modular arithmetic, Example 5 is important; functions, domain, codomain, image, composition,
1-1, onto, note the examples and nonexamples in Example 18, Theorem 0.3.
Note that we are skipping a few pages at the beginning of this Chapter. If you want to read them
that's fine, but they are not required...
When reading Chapter 1 pay special attention to the following concepts:
- the biography of Niels Abel on p.39 is interesting.
When reading Chapter 2 pay special attention to the following concepts:
- binary operation, group, note the examples and nonexamples
(p. 47 has a nice summary of examples), Theorems 2.1, 2.2, 2.3.
