Math 13 Homework #18

Our greatest glory consists not in never failing,
but in rising everytime we fall.
Oliver Goldsmith

Reading

Read what we will cover in the next class: 11.10, 13.8.

When reading 13.8 pay special attention to the following concepts:

  • cylindrical and sperical coordinate systems, how do they work? (look at Section 11.10 if you've never seen these coordinate systems before), note the formulas (2) and (4), where do they come from? what are the transformations you would use and what are the Jacobians of these transformations?

Problems

The following problems are due by the beginning of class on Tuesday 11/10 at 6 PM
  • 13.6: 2, 4, 5, 6, 7
  • Answers for evens:
    • 2) 6 sqrt(14)
    • 4) 1/6 x (3 sqrt(6) - sqrt(2))
    • 6) pi/6 x ( 17 sqrt(17) - 1)
    • NOTE: sqrt = square root
