Here are the vows we wrote together

Community vows

Liz and Alex's closest friends and family are gathered here today from all corners of the globe.

Liz and Alex, do you promise to nurture your relationships with each one of them, support them through their challenges, and share their joys?

Dear friends and family of Liz & Alex,

You have known Liz and Alex, some since childhood, some more recently as a couple.

Do you promise to nurture your relationships with Liz and Alex, support them through their challenges, and share their joys?

Liz and Alex, do you as a couple commit to living as sustainably as possible, confronting injustice where you see it, and striving to create beauty and equality in the world?

Now we will have a minute of silence so everyone present can think about what they as individuals want to commit to, in order to help create the world they wish to live in.

Now, turn to your neighbor, and exchange with them your commitments. They will be your witness as you are all witness to this ceremony today.

Liz's vows

Liz, repeat after me:

I promise

to laugh at Alex's bad puns

and continue to find humor when we are angry with each other.

I promise to nurture Alex's constantly active mind

musical spirit and vibrant imagination.

I promise to continue to learn

from Alex's ability to see patterns

and scientific beauty in the natural world.

Liz, do you commit to a joyful life with Alex filled with close friends, a loving family, collaborative cooking, support through the difficult times, physical comfort, and creative action?

Alex's vows

Alex, repeat after me:

I promise

to give Liz a massage

every day.

I promise to nurture her art and film ideas,

to learn from her constant creativity,

thinking outside the box,

and stunning visual language.

I promise to help Liz realize her artistic dreams

to seek humor to diffuse anger

and support her in her quest to educate

and fight injustice wherever it is found.

I vow to make Liz's radiant smile

show itself every minute of every day

or at least as often as possible!
