Math 8 Exam Information



CALCULATOR POLICY: Calculators or computing devices will not be allowed on exams.   You may use calculators, Mathematica and/or Maple on homework, but it is your responsibility to be prepared to work the exams without the help of calculators or computers.  Naturally, the exams will be designed so that calculators are not required (or even helpful).


FINAL EXAM: The final exam will be given Saturday, December 2nd, from 11:30 to 2:30 in Spaulding Auditorium in Hopkins Center.  The exam is cumulative and covers through Lagrange Mulipliers in section 15.8 (you are not responsible for the material on "Two Constraints" starting on page 1005).

The tutors will be holding extra office hours from 9am to 3pm in room 100C Kemeny Hall (located off the undergraduate lounge on the first floor of Kemeny Hall) on Friday, December 1st as follows:

9am - 11am: Paige
11am - 1pm: Annalies
1pm - 3pm: Amir.




EXAM 2 RESULTS:  The second exam will/has been returned in lecture on Friday (the 10th) -- provided you signed the release.  Otherwise, you must pick them up from your instructor's office.  We have written your total score based on the sum of the two midterm and your webwork score (scaled to a total of 40) through assignment "day21" .  Based on this total, you can estimate your grade in the class to date as follows.  (Note that we did not deal with "+" and "--" grades.)
Some additional information follows:

Exam 2:
The second exam will be given in 6 and 7 Steele Hall from 4 to 6 pm.  Students with conflicts must get permission from their instructor to take the make-up from 6:30 to 8:30 in 6 Steele.  This permission must be acknowledged via email to be valid.  The exam will emphasize material covered since the first exam.  In particular, you are responsible for sections 12.8, 12.9, 12.10, 13.1, 13.2, 13.3, 13.4, 13.5, 14.1, 14.2, 14.3** and 14.4**.

** In sections 14.3 and 14.4, you will not be responsible for the following topics: normal and binormal vectors, tangential and normal components of acceleration, and Kepler's laws of planetary motion.

Once again, the tutors have volunteered to hold office hours for the exam on Wednesday.   There hours are as follows.
