Exams

There will be two midterm examinations and a final examination. These exams are scheduled as follows:

Exam 1	Monday, October 22, 2001	Rooms TBA	4 - 6pm
Exam 2	Monday, November 12, 2001	Rooms TBA	4 - 6pm

The Registrar's Office schedules the final exam, which will occur during the period December 6 - 10. If you must make travel plans before the schedule for final exams appears, do not make plans to leave Hanover before December 11. Exams will not be given early to accommodate travel plans.

Homework Policy

• Homework will be assigned daily and will be due at the beginning of the next class meeting. This year all homework assignments will be submitted via the web, so deadlines are enforced electronically. More details are posted on the course assignment's web page.
• Late homework will not be accepted in the absense of divine intervention or matters of similar weight.
• Unexcused late and missing papers count zero.

Homework scores will be used only in helping to determine borderline grades, although there is a very strong correlation between those who do not do the homework regularly and those who receive low exam grades.

Grades

The course grade will be based upon the scores on the two midterm exams and the final exam. Homework scores affect your grade only in borderline cases.

The Honor Principle

On Exams: No help given or received

On Homework: Collaboration is permitted and encouraged, but NO COPYING . Of course, since WeBWorK generally gives each student a unique problem, copying would be pointless. On the other hand a discussion of the general idea of the problem(s) is desirable.

Tutorials

Tutorial assistance for this course, that is, help with your homework, will be available in 102 Bradley, Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays evenings 7 - 10pm. Tutorials will begin on Thursday, September 27.

Also note that the Tutor Clearinghouse will have private one-on-one tutors available for Math 8. The tutors are recruited on the basis that they have done well in the subject, and are trained by the Academic Skills Center. If a student receives financial aid, the College will pay for three hours of tutoring per week. If you would like to have a tutor, please go to 301 Collis and fill out an application as early in the term as possible.

Disabilities

Students with disabilities who will be taking this course and may need disability-related classroom accommodations are encouraged to make an appointment to see their instructor as soon as possible. Also, they should stop by the Academic Skills Center in Collis Center to register for support services.
